The Blue Charm is one of the most popular salmon flies of all time. First tied in the mid-1800s, it began as a simple British featherwing - often dressed small for low water, with an ostrich herl butt, golden pheasant topping, and a wing of mallard or turkey and teal. Over the years, the pattern evolved, and today, many tiers use grey squirrel in place of the original feathers. The blue hackle, is said to be one of most visible colours in the dim light of early morning or just before nightfall. A classic that continues to hold its place in fly boxes everywhere salmon is pursued.
